MG MG6 concept
MG has unveiled its MG6 sports hatchback set to go on sale in China later this year and then in UK dealerships in 2010.
The concept is very close to the production model and uses the Roewe 550 platform, but it's shorter and lighter.
Under the bonnet lies a 1.8-litre N-Series engine. Basically it's a tweaked Rover K-Series turbocharged petrol engine capable of 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 130mph. To all intents and purposes the MG6 is a rebadged Rover since the Roewe platform is essentially that of a Rover 75.
Chinese car maker SAIC also owns Roewe and Korean car maker Ssangyong but the MG6 has been styled and engineered in the UK by the SAIC UK engineering team, which is back at its MG Rover roots in Longbridge.
SAIC is said to talking with other manufacturers, including Volkswagen and General Motors with a view to supplying diesel engines for the MG6.
