New Models: RR4 to be called Rolls-Royce Ghost

Rolls-Royce will call its forthcoming small luxury car 'Ghost', replacing the concept's less-inspired RR4 designation.

Announcing the name at the Shanghai Motor Show the British company outlined some the specification for its new four-door saloon.

First off, the new car is not 'small' at an imposing 5.4m long and almost 2m wide. Nor will the junior Phantom be outgunned by its bigger brother. Powered by a new turbocharged 6.6 V12 the Ghost will have huge performance on tap thanks to the new V12 packing around 500bhp.

The new car also gets an eight-speed automatic and will be manufactured alongside the Phantom on its own production line at Goodwood following the south coast plant's recent expansion.

Prices are expected to be around £200,000 when the Ghost eventually goes on sale later this year.
