Subaru Legacy, 2010
Subaru is showing its new-for-2010 Legacy saloon and Outback estate in New York this week.
The Outback station wagon - no mainstream Legacy estate will be offered in the USA - gets higher ground clearance, revised suspension, a longer wheelbase plus a new swing-open roof rack. It's the roomiest Legacy yet, though is actually an inch shorter in its overall length.
Engines for the US market are a 3.6-litre flat-six petrol (256bhp) and an uprated 2.5 flat-four (170bhp), though in Europe, the Legacy and Outback will also come with a diesel. Americans will also get the option of the Impreza Turbo's 265bhp engine in the Legacy saloon.
There's a new six-speed manual gearbox or optional CVT with the flat-four, and a five-speed auto 'box for the six-cylinder, and all models come with Subaru's all-wheel-drive system.
Sales of the fourth-generation Legacy start later this summer.
