Motor Show: Geneva 2009: Aston Martin DBS Volante

03 Mar 09 16:44

Aston Martin's DBS Volante is the convertible version of the DBS coupe already on sale and is claimed by the company to be 'the ultimate open-air motoring experience'.

Some boast, but then it does come with a 510bhp/420lb-ft 6.0-litre V12, promising 191mph and 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds.

The Volante's powered hood folds away in 14 seconds under a neat tonneau cover and can be activated at speeds of up to 30mph. It keeps a similar roof-line to the DBS coupe, and as the roof is fabric, weight is little increased.

There are two 'occasional' rear seats, ideal for 'young people or extra luggage', says Aston Martin. Standard equipment includes carbon-ceramic brakes and a 13-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Six-speed manual transmission is standard-fit, with a six-speed auto 'box optional. Sales will start in the autumn.
