The Chevrolet Spark will go on sale in the UK early next year, though left-hand-drive models arrive in mainland Europe later in 2009.
The five-door Spark - production successor to the Beat concept car and a sister model to the Vauxhall Agila and Suzuki Splash - will be 'extraordinary value for money', Chevrolet promises.
Its brightly-upholstered interior incorporates a 170-litre boot with up to 994 litres of cargo space, split-folding rear seats, large door pockets, cupholders, a height-adjustable driver's seat and electric front windows, with options including roof rails and 14" or 15" alloy wheels.
Safety kit includes front, side and curtain airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners and three three-point rear seatbelts.
Engines are 1.0- and 1.2-litre petrol units (68bhp and 78bhp respectively) and both will return over 56.5mpg and emit less than 120g/km of carbon dioxide. The 1.2-litre will do 0-60mph in 12.4 seconds.
