Kia has begun production of Cee'd models equipped with its ISG (Idle Stop & Go) stop-start system.
These promise fuel savings of up to 15%, with particular benefit in city conditions.
The ISG system automatically cuts the engine when the car comes to a halt - at traffic lights, for example - and then restarts when the clutch is pressed.
It comes with an upgraded ECU, a new high-efficiency alternator with brake energy regeneration, and will not stop the engine if battery capacity is less than 75%.
The Cee'd ISG will go on sale in mainland Europe this spring, though right-hand-drive models will not arrive in the UK until late in the year.
