Motor Show: Detroit 2009: Subaru Legacy Concept

12 Jan 09 13:50

Here's a preview of the next-generation Legacy saloon, showing its longer wheelbase, roomier interior and more modern design.

Twenty years and 3.6 million cars on from the launch of the first Legacy, the upcoming version has sharper body-lines, more sculpted wheel arches, a more aggressive grille with central wing motif, dual rows of LED headlamps, thin vertical foglamps, angular air intakes and features including rear-view cameras. The concept is finished in high-gloss silver paint.

The concept's interior has a four-seat layout, though the production car will probably get a conventional three-person rear bench. It features touch-screen displays, monitors for the cameras, screens in the back of the front headrests, high-tec materials and blue-tinted pearl-white leather upholstery with black metallic details on the door trim.

Power comes from a 3.6-litre, six-cylinder 'Boxer' engine, as in the latest Tribeca SUV, with all-wheel-drive; smaller four-cylinder petrol engines, and Subaru's own diesel, will be offered in Europe. European-market models will be built in Japan, but versions for the US market will be made in Lafayette, Indiana.
