New Models: Nissan shows its super-van

Nissan has unveiled its NV2500 Concept van in Detroit. This concept has a three-zone format with driver and passenger seating up front, a wired-up conference zone behind and the large cargo area, plus huge 20-inch alloy wheels, a solar panel on its roof and an awning-style opening side panel which folds down to form an external work-bench.

This large panel-van has been conceived to take on the Ford Econoline and suchlike in the US market; production versions will be offered in a variety of formats, and a seated passenger-carrying day van-type model is probable.

Based on the Titan pick-up truck's platform, the van will come with a choice of Cummin-supplied diesel engines or Nissan's own petrol V8 with five-speed automatic transmission. It's one of three new models to be built from 2010 at Nissan's factory in Canton, Mississippi.
