Fisker Automotive will unveil its production-ready Karma hybrid sports car at the Detroit Motor Show.
The Karma is a plug-in hybrid that can do up to 50 miles in all-electric mode. It combines a 260bhp direct-injection 2.0-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, a generator and lithium-ion batteries, and can deliver up to 408bhp.
Top speed is 125mph, and 0-62mph acceleration takes 5.8 seconds.
The four-seater Karma is built around an aluminium spaceframe chassis with aluminium and composite body panels; its design has been little changed from the original concept bar an enhanced grille, a flush B-pillar, larger air intakes, a side vent for hot air, an exhaust pipe rerouted behind the front wheels and a rear diffuser with cooling cover for the electric drivetrain.
Prices for the Karma start from $87,900 and first deliveries are scheduled for November 2009 - though CEO Henrik Fisker has announced that the car is already sold out until mid-2010.
