Motor Show: Paris 2008: Hyundai i20

01 Oct 08 14:00

The all-new Hyundai i20 supermini replaces the Getz early next year; it is built on new underpinnings combining elements of the i30, i10 and Kia Soul platforms, and has a roomier interior and longer wheelbase.

The engines are all-new, too, with Hyundai's super-economical 75bhp 1.2-litre petrol (as in the i10) to feature.

There'll also be a 1.4-litre diesel (90bhp). A specially-modified low-emissions version of the diesel, badged i20 i-blue, returns 68mpg and emits just 99g/km of carbon dioxide, thanks to improved underbody aerodynamics, ride lowered by 15mm, low-friction engine oil and low rolling-resistance tyres.

Hyundai is also showing its Santa Fe hybrid concept, which combines a 2.4-litre petrol engine with 30kW electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. This makes for an overall fuel consumption figure of 44mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 148g/km.

Hyundai is also displaying its Genesis saloon and Genesis Coupe concept, and the iX55 SUV, the European-market version of the Veracruz already on sale in the USA. This large seven-seater, an old-school body-on-frame off-roader, is under evaluation for UK sales.
