Volkswagen Concept Pick-Up
Volkswagen has revealed the first pictures of its L200/Hilux-sized Concept Pick-Up truck.
It will be unveiled in concept form at the Hanover Commercial Vehicles Show and go into production in Argentina next year. European exports, including to the UK, are planned.
The double-cab Concept Pick-Up is fitted out as a search-and-rescue vehicle, with roof lighting and life-saving tools, though the real thing will be very much a spartan working vehicle. It will come with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, and equipment including a two-piece tailgate and various storage boxes and cargo-carrying devices in its five-foot load-bed.
Volkswagen's codename for this truck has been 'Robust' and this may well stay for the production car. A revival of the name 'Taro', as used on the Toyota-derived trucks Volkswagen sold in the early 1990s, has also been suggested.
