Following reports last week that the Mini Crossman will be launched at the Paris Motor Show, it now looks as if its sister model, the BMW X1, is also to make its debut at the event.
The X1 will be built at BMW's own plant in Leipzig, the company has confirmed, alongside the 1- and 3-Series. It shares its platform with the 1-Series, and will feature the more powerful engines used in the 1-Series range plus BMW's XDrive four-wheel-drive system. Sales are scheduled for late 2009.
The engine line-up is likely to comprise the 120i (170bhp) and 130i (265bhp) petrol engines, as well as the 120d (177bhp) and 123d (204bhp) diesels.
The Crossman will be made by Magna Steyr in Austria and will be powered by the 175bhp turbocharged 1.6 (as in the Cooper S) and the 110bhp 1.6 from the mainstream Mini hatchback/Clubman range.
