The MG TF will be back in production at Longbridge from the beginning of August, with the first cars delivered to showrooms in September, according to a statement from NAC MG UK today.

An initial batch of special-edition versions of the roadster, called TF LE500, will be offered. The TF was last on sale in 2005 prior to the collapse of MG Rover.

New NAC MG UK chairman He Xiao Qing said today: 'I am delighted to be in a position to talk about a launch date for the TF LE500 following a process of planning, reorganisation, active quality improvements and parts optimisation. We are now fully focused on bringing our hard work to fruition.'

Much of the TF's structure will be built by NAC (Nanjing Automobile Corporation) in China, with pre-fabricated kits sent to Longbridge for final assembly, but in the long term, NAC MG UK intends to build more of the car in the UK.

The company hopes to sell the reborn TF to MG enthusiasts and owners of older TFs looking to upgrade.

It is also thought to be considering production of other models at the Longbridge plant, including the Roewe 550.

Other MG models could well be built at another smaller-scale factory in Leamington.
