Subaru R1e
Subaru is currently testing its R1e electric city car in the UK, with a view to starting imports in 2010, but it has also taken a couple for trials in New York.
A pair of R1es will be operated this summer by the New York Power Authority. The two-seaters are said to have a range between recharges of 50 miles and to be capable of up to 65mph; they have new easily-recyclable lithium-ion battery packs and can be recharged to 80 per cent of their capacity in just 15 minutes or recharged fully from a domestic power supply overnight.
