Koenigsegg CCX
Swedish supercar-builder Koenigsegg is tapping into the Scandinavian trend for biofuel usage with its ethanol-compatible CCXR.
This (sort of) eco-friendly supercar hasn't been slowed down, however: as ethanol has a higher octane value and also cools the combustion chambers, the CCXR has a power output of 1,018bhp. Yes, that's more power than a Bugatti Veyron (which produces a mere 987bhp) and makes the CCXR the most powerful production vehicle on offer anywhere in the world. torque output is 782lb-ft. This biofuel upgrade (to E85 fuel, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% conventional gasoline) will be offered as a retro-fit conversion for CCXs already on the road, too.
The CCGT, by contrast, has been downtuned for just under 600bhp, in order to meet the FIA GT1 race-series regulations. The standard Koenigsegg 4.7 V8 (usually 806bhp) has been enlarged to 5.0 litres, but had its superchargers removed; aerodynamics have been enhanced and an extra 100kg of ballast added to meet the GT1 1,100kg minimum. This track-only car will also meet the ACO regulations for the Le Mans 24 hours.
Koenigsegg suggests that the proven engine reliability (the V8 has done good service in the company's road cars so far) and the CCGT's high downforce, body rigidity, short length and height and excellent weight distribution, should make it a very competitive racer.
