Audi is adding more diesel power to its Q7 SUV: a 4.2-litre V8.
The piezo-injection engine, already available in the A8 saloon, delivers 326bhp and 561lb-ft of torque; it'll take the huge Q7 to 146mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds. It returns a reasonably respectable - for a vehicle this size - 25.4mpg.
Standard kit for this Q7 4.2 V8 TDI includes adaptive air suspension, a powered tailgate, lane assist (warning the driver via vibrations on the steering wheel if the car is drifting out of lane), six-speed tiptronic transmission, a self-locking centre differential, 18" alloy wheels, wood or aluminium trim, leather upholstery, electric/heated front seats and rear-view parking cameras. Options include 21" wheels, a fixed glass roof, luggage compartment rails, and the choice of a five-, six- or seven-seater layout. Four-seater versions will be offered later.
The order books open for this model in April, and UK deliveries are scheduled for late June; UK pricing will be announced at a later date.
