Land Rover Defender
Land Rover is announcing a series of updates at the Geneva Motor Show this week.
The Freelander gets a new diesel engine/automatic gearbox combination, with the Ford-PSA 2.2-litre, 160bhp engine (badged TD4) and the same six-speed gearbox with sequential-shift facility as the 3.2 i6 petrol version. This diesel auto model returns 33.2mpg. Prices start from £22,305, with deliveries from April.
There's also a new selection of options available in the Freelander range: 19" alloys, a body styling pack, iPod/MP3 connection modules, DVD player with rear-seat screens, body-coloured mirror caps and sill strips are all now available.
Upgrades for the Discovery include a new Ebony centre console and floor console, a new finish for fascia air vents and controls, a silver finish for the speaker bezels, the choice of satin walnut or piano black wood trim in HSE models, ruched leather seats, driver's seat cushion pockets, eight-way adjustment for the passenger seat and powered lumbar support for the driver's seat.
Land Rover is also discontinuing the non-turbo petrol-engined 4.4 V8 variants, expecting over 90% of Discoveries sold this year to be diesels.
Mods to the Range Rover Sport include a new Ebony centre stack, a new metallic trim finish, improved carpet mats, a stainless steel tread strip and the options of dark-stained wood and tan leather upholstery. SE models gain standard sat nav, and SE and HSE models get eight-way-adjustable electric passenger seats and electric lumbar support for the driver's seat.
The revised-for-2007 Defender also makes an appearance, with its new 2.4-litre diesel engine, six-speed wide-ratio gearbox, new facia design, new seating layout and improved air conditioning/heating/ventilation system.
