There's a new version of the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine on the way from Fiat, which will make its first appearance in the Lancia Ypsilon Sport.
This variant of the excellent 16-valve diesel engine (which has already proved highly successful in its 90bhp and 75bhp iterations) is the most powerful yet, delivering 105bhp at 4,000rpm and 148lb-ft of torque at 1,750rpm. In the Ypsilon, it delivers 0-60mph in 10.3 seconds, and returns 62.8mpg and just 119g/km of carbon dioxide. It'll be offered in the Ypsilon alongside the continuing 90bhp version and the 95bhp 1.4 16v petrol engine, and will soon be available in the Grande Punto and other Fiat ranges as well.
