Motor Show: Paris: Chevrolet WTCC Ultra

29 Sep 06 16:47

Chevrolet has unveiled a concept that could also be its next World Touring Car Championship contender, as the fully-working WTCC Ultra is claimed to be ready to race.

Designed by 25-year-old Ewan Kingsbury, based at GM's Australian division Holden, and developed by teams in the UK, Germany and Switzerland, the WTCC Ultra is a truly international affair: its engine, a 2.0-litre, 190bhp diesel, is made by GM Daewoo in Korea, and the prototype on show in Paris is made in Japan.

Chevrolet says: 'The concept exists as a vision of a new generation of World Touring Cars, and follows on from the success of Chevrolet's WTCC race team, which took its second victory of the season earlier this month at Brno in the Czech Republic.' That's not all, though: look closely, and it's a safe bet that under that sported-up, racetrack-ready exterior lies a preview of a production car, the successor to the Lacetti.
