The long-rumoured smaller Rolls-Royce has been confirmed for production by chairman and CEO Ian Robertson, who said that work had begun on a new model line to be launched within the next four years.
The new car will be smaller than the Phantom and cost between 200,000 euros and 300,000 euros before tax. Planning permission has been granted at the company's site in Goodwood, West Sussex, to provide more capacity for the 'baby' Rolls and the Phantom-based convertible, probably to be called Corniche, that's Robertson confirmed for sale in 2007.
The new Rolls is expected to share much of its underpinnings with the next-generation BMW 7-Series, although it will be larger than the BMW. It will be positioned as a rival for the likes of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and Maybach 57S, at the upper end of the luxury saloon market.
