The Swift Sport "takes driving enjoyment to an unprecedented level", according to Suzuki's press release. Even as PR hype goes, that's a pretty optimistic statement, but as the standard's Swift supermini's a fun little thing, the Swift Sport does at least promise to be a good laugh.
Specifically tuned and tweaked from its Japanese counterpart to suit European roads and driving tastes, the Swift Sport has a 125bhp 1.6-litre 16v engine with variable-valve timing, good for 124mph, close-ratio five-speed manual transmission and a raspy exhaust. It sits on modified, stiffened suspension with Monroe shock absorbers, large disc brakes front and rear, and a choice of 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels.
To distinguish it from less swift Swifts, the Sport has the usual body styling touches: a fatter front bumper with air intakes, chromed twin exhaust tailpipes and a roof spoiler, plus different clear-lensed taillamps. Its red and black cabin has bolstered front seats, chromed-ringed dials, stainless steel pedals and a leather steering wheel. Standard equipment includes ESP, six airbags and front seatbelt pretensioners.
