Motor Show: Paris: Subaru Legacy and Impreza

29 Sep 06 13:33

Sales have just started of revised-for-2007 Subaru Legacy and Legacy Outback models. They have gained styling tweaks similar to those already applied to Japanese-market versions, with double-curved headlamp clusters reminiscent of the latest Passat and general updates inside and out.

The three-mode SI-Drive control system which remaps the throttle response, fuel supply and ignition characteristics - as fitted in the 2.5 GT Spec.B model in some markets - will be offered in all 3.0-litre models.

Subaru is also launching the European-market Tribeca crossover, and an entry-level Impreza with a new 1.5-litre flat-four engine. This engine develops a modest 105bhp and 105lb-ft of torque, and is good for 109mph, 0-60mph in 13.5 seconds and 35.8mpg; it returns 184g/km of carbon dioxide.

Badged Impreza 1.5r, it comes with a five-speed manual gearbox and dual-mode four-wheel drive; in the UK, it will be offered in five-door Sportwagon form only, but other markets will also get a four-door saloon version. Prices start from £12,495, with kit including alloy wheels, climate control, front and rear electric windows, front and side airbags and a simple radio/cassette player. Deliveries begin on 1 October.
