Citroen's C4 Picasso compact MPV is now a seven-seater. It will slot into the Citroen range between the Berlingo Multispace and the full-sized C8, alongside the five-seat Xsara Picasso, which will continue on sale 'for many years to come', says Citroen.
Citroen claims that the C4 Picasso will have the largest sunroof in the sector, as well as a vast panoramic windscreen giving excellent all-round visibility. The C4 Picasso will initially come with either the 143bhp 2.0 petrol engine or 138bhp 2.0 HDI diesel and the option of Citroen's new six-speed electronic clutchless gearbox.
Equipment on offer will include air suspension to the rear, automatic four-zone climate control, a removable boot light/torch and ambient interior lighting, an automatic electric parking brake, a parking space measurement system, video screens and a DVD player.
The second and third rows of seats can be folded flat under the floor with no need to remove the headrests, giving up to 1,951 litres of load space. With the rearmost row of seats (easily accessed thanks to a clever flip-up/slide function for the middle row) folded to give a five-seat layout, there's 576 litres under the parcel shelf. The rear window can be opened separately and the rear of the car can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button to aid loading or unloading of heavy objects. It's not quite as eye-catching as the C-Metisse concept car (see separate story), but it's certainly a useful-looking proposition.
