Spy Shot of Alfa Brera Spider
Alfa Romeo quietly revealed the Brera Spider - upcoming replacement for the aged Spider still on sale - to a select bunch of Alfa enthusiasts in a small tent at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California last weekend. This signals Alfa's serious intentions to re-enter the US market, where it has not sold since withdrawing in 1991. The Pininfarina-built Spider is clearly the sister model to the Brera coupe, but with a traditional folding fabric hood, a pair of titanium rollover hoops and wind deflectors. It is a two-seater, and in a first for an Alfa roadster, has a glass rear screen. Two petrol engines are to be offered, the 2.2 JTS and 3.2 V6 units (185bhp and 260bhp), with six-speed manual gearboxes as standard, and a diesel could become available if there is sufficient demand. The Brera Spider will make a more public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, with sales beginning next spring. (italiaspeed.com).
