The twin-chamber airbag
Toyota has developed a new type of airbag which will reduce the risk of injury to occupants of a car as it inflates. Airbags usually deploy at great force, often leaving people with bruising and minor cuts, though this is deemed to be a small risk compared to the injury-saving benefits of an airbag in the event of a car crash. Toyota's new design, though, is said to reduce the risk of facial injuries, with a twin-chamber system featuring a depression for a face in the middle; this deflects the force of the impact of the airbag further towards the chest and shoulders. The twin-chamber airbag will first be fitted in the new-generation Lexus IS-series range, and will appear in other Toyota and Lexus models in due course.
