Maserati is soon to reveal a road-going version of the GranSport-based Trofeo racer, a response to feedback that the GranSport is not quite as sports-focussed as customers would like. The Trofeo MC8 will have a very similar specification to the track car, with its 4.2 V8 tuned for 415bhp (compared to the standard GranSport's 400bhp) and with a higher rev limit at 7900rpm. It will have the standard road-going six-speed transmission, but racing-style Brembo brakes, aerodynamic body kit and 19-inch alloys with high-performance tyres. It'll be around 250kg lighter than the GranSport, having had its rear bench seat removed and lightweight carbonfibre front seats fitted, along with carbonfibre interior trim and other weight-saving measures. A production run of around 250 vehicles is anticipated, and the Trofeo MC8 could make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. (italiaspeed.com).
