Lamborghini is to make a production version of its Concept S show car, reports Automotive News Europe. A limited run of 80-90 vehicles is planned in response to the enthusiasm with which the Concept S was received at the Geneva Motor Show last spring.
Inspired by single-seat racers of the past, the Concept S was intended as a hint at an upcoming Gallardo Roadster. Designed at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant' Agata, Bologna, under the leadership of Luc Donkerwolke, the completely roofless Concept S had a so-called 'saute-vent' windbreak dividing the cockpit into two sections for effective air channelling, a small wind deflector rather than a proper windscreen, a retractable rear-view mirror for optimum aerodynamics, a huge rear diffuser and massive front and rear spoilers. It was described in Geneva as being an "extreme interpretation of an open car", and most of its features are now said to be appearing in the production version.
A more conventional Gallardo Roadster is still said to be on the way to go alongside this model, which will take the name Gallardo Spyder when it is formally unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
