A new version of the Volkswagen Golf, the Golf Plus, has been unveiled at the Bologna motor show in Italy today. The Plus will fit into the range between the Golf hatchback and the Touran compact MPV, and will go on UK sale next year.
Based on the regular Golf, it shares virtually the same width and length, but is 95mm taller to give more interior space. Volkswagen is also claiming more flexibility through increased stowage and loadspace and adaptable rear seats.
The rear seats can slide back and forth through 260mm and fold via a new system to give a virtually flat floor. The boot has a maximum capacity of 505 litres. Its styling still resembles the hatch, while new features will include LED rear lights and active headlights. The line-up will virtually mirror the regular Golf range, excluding GTI but including S through to SE and Sport. Specification levels will also be pretty similar to the Golf hatch. The Golf Plus goes on UK sale next summer, with pricing, engine and specification levels being announced closer to the car's launch. Expect prices, however, to fall halfway between Golf and Touran levels.
