BMW is to launch a saloon version of the 1-Series in the US in 2007, reports just-auto.com. It will be offered with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive powertrains, as well as a diesel engine, to pick up on the growing demand for diesels Stateside. BMW has no plans to offer the saloon in Europe, where the 1-Series has just been launched as a five-door hatchback, but this decision could be reversed if there is sufficient demand. Such a saloon could revive memories of BMW's popular sporty three-box compacts of the Seventies, though the 1 will be a four-door rather than a two-door like the 2002. (just-auto.com).
