Vauxhall is offering a Trailer Stability Programme option with its latest Astra hatchback and upcoming new Astra estate models. This is designed to cut high-speed swaying or yawing motions and works with the existing ESP (electronic stability programme) to automatically apply brakes or reduce throttle openings when a loss of stability is sensed. TSP will be offered with the optional Towing Pack (£350), which also includes Hill Start Assist, tyre deflation detection, cruise control, a detachable tow bar and, on estate models, automatic self-levelling rear suspension. The Astra hatch can tow 1000-1500kg, depending on engine, and the estate 900-1400kg. The new Astra estate will be available in the UK from September.
