Chrysler is starting a multimillion dollar overhaul at its factory in Jefferson North, Detroit, to build the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee and its upcoming 4x4-crossover sister model. Chrysler is also retooling at its plants in Brampton, Ontario and Newark, New Jersey, as part of a massive initiative to improve quality, flexibility and efficiency. Production of the new Grand Cherokee begins in July, and the crossover - sharing much of its underpinnings with the Mercedes M-Class and upcoming R-Class crossover - is scheduled for late 2005.
