New Model Previews: Faster Audi RS6 launched

16 Apr 04 14:55

Audi RS6 plus

Order books have opened for the Audi RS 6 plus: a limited-edition, more powerful version of one of the quickest estate cars in the world, which continues although the A6 it is based on has been replaced by an all-new range. With an output of 480bhp, 30bhp up on the standard car, its top speed reaches 175mph, though 0-60mph acceleration time is unchanged at 4.6 seconds. The revised ECU does, however, give a wider range for the 413lb ft peak torque output, increasing mid- and upper-end pull and flexibility. The Quattro GmbH team has also added two additional radiators for the twin turbos' intercoolers.

Equipment includes the Quattro GmbH sports pack suspension, optional on earlier RS 6s, with stiffened dampers and ride lowered by 10mm, the Quattro sports pack exhausts with black tailpipes, styling pack with black window trim, grille surrounds and roof rails, larger cross-drilled brake discs and 19-inch five-arm alloys. The interior is upholstered in black 'natural' leather, with blue, silver or black/cognac trim no-cost options. Just 999 RS 6 plus models will be made, and UK pricing is set at £66,675. An all-new RS 6 based on the recently launched A6 range is not scheduled for sale until 2006.
