More kit but price up by £500
Honda is adding a close-ratio gearbox, Vehicle Stability Assist, larger 16-inch wheels with wider 205/55 tyres and larger ventilated front brake discs to the standard specification of its popular five-door 2.0-litre, 160bhp Civic Type-S. The VSA system acts through braking of individual wheels and reducing torque to counter over- or understeer, and incorporates an electronic drive-by-wire throttle, traction control and cruise control. The price of the revised Type-S, on sale from May 1st, has been raised by £500 to £15,513; standard kit also includes climate control, half-leather trim and front fog lights. 17-inch alloys are a further £600 option.
