The new petrol engine line-up - to include the new camless and direct-injection units - is thought to include 1.8-litre (150 bhp and 190 bhp), 2.5 V6 (210bhp), 3.5 V6 (270bhp) and an AMG 5.4 (400bhp-plus to take to the Audi RS4 and BMW M3). Diesels will include a new 3.0-litre.
The C-Class will also be equipped with the full range of Mercedes safety kit, such as the crash-sensing Pre-Safe system, and niceties such as massaging seats, at least in the higher-specification versions. However, it will not receive the unpopular, and now-axed, SBC electronic brake-by-wire system.
