Hybrid happening : Conventional petrol and diesel engines come first, but a hybrid is said to be on the drawing board as well, along with four-wheel-drive versions developed with help from Subaru, in which Toyota owns a stake. With the hybrid powertrain, the Avensis could be exported to the US for the first time, giving Toyota a model to fit in its range between the Corolla (Auris ) and Matrix, and the much larger Camry and Avalon.
