83 Bristol 400-series (page 8 of 25)

The offshoot of an aircraft company, Bristol has been turning out its idiosyncratic motor cars with a minimum of publicity since 1947, and selling them directly through just one showroom in Kensington. The elegant 400-series models established the template: impeccable construction, incredibly strong structural design and elegant aerodynamic bodywork, minus unnecessary technology to interfere with the purity of the driving experience. Until 1961, when Bristol became a private company and started fitting a Chrysler V8 instead, all models had an in-house straight-six, derived from a BMW unit and giving up to 160bhp - and endless torque - in race tune.
