81 Austin-Healey Sprite MkI (page 6 of 25)

The Frog-Eye roadster is simply one of the cutest little cars ever made, with its boggly headlights and wide-mouthed grille. It wasn't just a girlie runaround, though. Donald Healey developed it in partnership with the British Motor Corporation as an affordable way into sports car ownership, using A35 mechanicals and a Morris Minor steering rack. It cost just £660 at launch in 1958 and found 49,500 buyers. It may only have had the 948cc A-series engine, producing just 43bhp, but that was enough for a lot a fun. The MkII from 1961 formed the basis of the MG Midget.
