80 Alvis 12/50 (page 5 of 25)
|
'The very quintessence of the vintage sports car,' says the Alvis Owners' Club, and who's arguing? This 1923 1,500cc OHV model replaced the earlier side-valve Alvis models and its robust ladderframe chassis spawned 4,000-odd open roadster, sports tourer, coupe and saloon models, not to mention numerous specials, most capable of 80mph. Versatile, super-tough, easy to work on, and predictable and rewarding in its handling, many 12/50s competed with considerable success. The 12/50 was ideal for sprints, hillclimbs, rallies and endurance events, and hundreds continued to race long after production ended in 1932.
