98 Triumph TR6 (page 23 of 25)
|
This was Triumph's all-time best seller until the TR7 replaced it. An estimated 90% of the 90,000 TR6s made between 1968 and 1976 were exported to the US, which is why we don't see that many in the UK. It broke with Triumph tradition with styling by Karmann of Germany, who created a thoroughly contemporary and practical bodyshell. The engine was the fuel-injected 150bhp 2.5 from the short-lived TR5, though later mods brought it down to 125bhp, and US versions got a 105bhp carburated version. It was smooth, strong and flexible, comfortable and refined, yet still a blast to drive. The TR6 was a great all-rounder, despite its old-school body-on-frame construction.
