96 Triumph GT6 (page 21 of 25)
|
The production version of the Spitfire-based coupes which raced at Le Mans in 1964 and '65. Styled by Michelotti, with a distinctively muscular tail end and bulging bonnet to accommodate the 95bhp 2.0-litre Vitesse straight-six, it was built from 1966 to 1973. It delivered performance to live up to its looks, too: 0-60mph in 12 seconds and 105mph - but handling was wayward oversteer, though the MkIIs were somewhat safer. Reliability was iffy, but the GT6 was quicker and smoother than an MGB GT, and had so much more character.
