The TA Midget was MG's first bargain sports car, dating from 1936: an 800kg, 50bhp open tourer capable of 65mph, and a good little car for trials events. The 1,250cc, 54bhp TB followed - the last MG developed under Cecil Kimber - and the post-war TC was a big export success: more than 10,000 were built and many went to the US. A competition-tuned TD won a TT race at Dundrod, though the TD-based EX172 failed to complete Le Mans in 1951. By the 50s it was dated, slow and uncomfortable - but many still regard the T as the last 'proper' MG.
