76 AC Cobra 427 (page 1 of 25)

A Brit with American muscle. Auto Carriers of Thames Ditton, Surrey, made its name with the Bristol-powered Ace roadster - but it's the 1962 Cobra for which it'll always be remembered. The brainchild of US racing driver Carroll Shelby, who liked AC's lightweight construction and aluminium body panels, the Cobra was conceived for the Ford team to take on the Chevy Corvette. The Ace body needed only minor modifications to take a big US V8, initially a 260-cubic inch (4,261cc) unit but, from 1965, the legendary 427 (7.0-litre) engine, good for 425bhp and 180mph. A multitude of kit-car lookalikes and copies followed.
