32 Ford Escort (page 7 of 25)

Ford sold 20 million of its rear-wheel-drive Escorts, many of them built at Halewood on Merseyside. The first product from the newly aligned Ford of Europe, it was mechanically simple and old-school but it looked light years beyond the Anglia it replaced. And there were plenty of versions to wow enthusiasts: the rally winners, the Cosworth-developed RS1600 and RS2000, and the 1300 GT, Twin Cam and Mexico. The re-skinned MkII from 1975 carried on the good work, including the rally successes, but the 1980-on front-wheel-drive Escorts never had quite the same flair.
