50 Vauxhall PA Cresta (page 25 of 25)

The Vauxhall an image-conscious rocker could bear to be seen in; a touch of Americana from an otherwise unimaginative builder of family cars. Vauxhall's Ford Zodiac rival of 1957 to 1962 had tail fins, masses of chrome, and curved, wraparound windscreens, with two-tone paint and whitewall tyres optional. It looked a little over-the-top on a wet day in Luton, but it brought a taste of the American dream across the Atlantic, and with an unstressed 2.2-litre straight six, replaced in '60 by a 2.6, it was the nearest most Brits would get to cruising in a Cadillac. Nearly 82,000 were made, many since restored during the rockabilly revival of the 1980s.
