43 Reliant Robin (page 18 of 25)
|
A national treasure, aka the 'plastic pig' and butt of many jokes. The Robin wasn't economy vehicle-maker Reliant's only three-wheeler, but it became the generic name by which all such models - including the earlier Regal and later Rialto - were known. Born in the fuel crisis years, it gave thousands an economical way to get around and keep dry, but its main benefit was its classification for tax and licence purposes: it could be driven on a provisional driver's licence without passing a test. Produced 1973-81, revived 1989-2001, there have been attempts since to resurrect this unstable anomaly of a vehicle, but it's probably best left dead now.
