41 Nissan Micra (page 16 of 25)
|
Yes, you read that right: since 1992, Japanese carmaker Nissan has built its Micra supermini in Sunderland. The successful and reliable Micra was the first Japanese car to win the European Car of the Year award and was specifically tuned and developed from the Japanese-market March to suit European tastes. The Micra now shares its underpinnings with the Renault Clio, and has spawned versions including the C+C coupe-cabriolet and Note mini-crossover. It's a cute and user-friendly runaround, and a reminder that mass-market car manufacturing in Britain is a viable option - more than 1.3 million MkIIs were made between 1992 and 2002 at the Sunderland plant, one of Europe's most productive car factories with a capacity of 400,000 cars a year.
