26 Austin Mini (page 1 of 25)

A work of genius and a best seller, the Mini is a tiny car that has been hugely influential. Designed by Alec Issigonis with one eye on the Fiat 500 and the other on German bubble cars, the clever and revolutionarily-roomy Austin Seven or Morris Mini-Minor (as it was initially known) perfectly met the demands of the fuel-conscious public after the Suez crisis caused a huge hike in petrol prices. With Alex Moulton's rubber-cone suspension it was a hoot to drive, especially in John Cooper-tuned form, and it proved its sporting credentials with wins at the Monte Carlo Rally. An icon, right up to the end of Rover Mini production in 2000, with more than 5,500,000 sold around the world.
