24 Triumph TR4/4A (page 24 of 25)
|
The first TR with wind-down glass windows and a boot, synchromesh on all forward gears, optional overdrive on second, third and fourth gears, and rack-and-pinion steering, plus modern styling by Michelotti. Pioneering touches in 1961 also included an optional removable hardtop with fixed rear glass window, roll-bar and central bar - an early example of a targa top - and an advanced adjustable ventilation system. The 1965 TR4A added independent suspension. Production versions gave 105bhp, but some were supercharged to over 200bhp; the TR4/4A made for an affordable racer and rallier as well as a fun road car, filling the podium at the Sebring 12 Hours, just after its four-year production run ended.
