22 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow (page 22 of 25)
|
The Silver Shadow was the first Roller with a monocoque body, independent suspension with hydraulic self-levelling and disc brakes all round - hardly innovations by 1965, but a sea-change for the ultra-conservative marque. Rolls-Royce went on to make more than 32,300 saloons and 5,770 two-door coupes, and the Silver Shadow - relatively affordable for a Rolls - remained in production until 1980. Not quite as classy as its sister model, the T2-series Bentley Continental, but it became the archetypal wedding car and thus occupies a very special place in the memories of many.
