15 JCB Dieselmax (page 15 of 25)

The world's fastest diesel car, though to call it a car is stretching the imagination a little bit: a streamlined missile, more like. The Dieselmax ran to 365.774mph during Bonneville Speed Week on the Utah salt flats in 2006, powered by two 5.0-litre JCB engines, adapted and highly tuned from units usually found in diggers and fork-lifts to give 750bhp. One engine drove the front wheels, the other the rear, and the whole thing was guided by former fighter pilot Andy Green. The aim was to demonstrate the strengths of British engineering: Dieselmax succeeded.
